Most of the English section of this site is under construction. As it's faster to translate the captions for the photos..., only the "Getaway's photo album" is now (january 2010) available. Other links will become effective as the translation work progresses.
The Scenario:Anyvonne and Gerard, somewhat anticipating their retirement, left Paimpol - a small fishing port of Côtes-d'Armor (the north coast of Brittany, France) - on May 21st 1998 for a voyage around the world. All through these many years they have been sailing Getaway (an "Atlantis 400" steel hulled sloop). Their wake have lengthened, first across the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Indian ocean, before returning to the south Atlantic ocean, they crossed westward until Rio de Janeiro on january 2011. |
’The script:They give an account of the voyage in their logbook "The ARB Gazette" - Anyvonne Restaurant and Bar. "ARB" was the name given to Anyvonne's home which, before they left, was always open to fellow travellers. In the logbook, which today boasts 36 issues and forms the main part of this site, they recount a few anecdotes which peppered their way, evoke their encounters, relate their daily life on a yacht/sailboat... They also deal with subjects about circumnavigation, such as: Sailing, Cruising, Contacts with authorities, Technical matters (alternative solutions, repairs, maintenance...), They even propose their recipes for on-board cooking. If you are looking for photos, you'll find a few in the "Getaway's photo album". You can even download a short video (50 seconds and 8.6 Mo) about Getaway sailing in Vanuatu... On this site, you'll also find nautical details about anchorages they visited and loved... Finally, you can get the latest news posted here by Getaway's crew and even send them an email. |
